Blood Fin Tetra

Also known as True Bloodfin, Redfin Tetra, or Glass Bloodfin, is a very appreciated freshwater fish, especially by beginners, as it is very easy to care for and quite hardy. They have silver bodies with a greenish tone, depending on the aquarium lighting, and red fins, which give these fish their name.

  • Origin: Characidae  They are found in South America in Argentina, Rio Parana.

  • Care Level: Easy to Moderate  This species comes from bodies of water in South America. They prefer things to be on the warmer side with a relatively neutral pH balance.

    The tank parameters are water temperature: 64°F to 82°F (around 70 degrees is preferred), pH levels: 6.0 to 8.0 and water hardness: 2 to 3 dGH.

    They are omnivorous, in the wild they primarily feed on worms, small insects, and crustaceans, but in the aquarium they will generally eat all kinds of live, fresh, and flake foods.

    These fish should be fed several times a day, but only what they can consume in 3 minutes or less at each feeding.

  • Size: 2 Inches  The male is slightly more colorful than the female, has a small hook on the anal fin, and a slender body. The female is plumper.

  • Life Span: 5-7 Years  The expected lifespan, if housed correctly.
